It is about a courageous woman Mai Bhago who lived in the times of Aurangzeb, the cruel ruler who had waged a military war against Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Read about the bravery and amazing strength of Mai Bhago which no history books tell you –

Mai Bhago was given learned military training by her father, Malo Shah. So when she came to know that 40 soldiers from her own village had deserted deserted Guru Sahib while Mughal army was chasing them, she became very angry. She scolded them and told all the village women to not extend any welcome to the deserters.

She took her horse and got ready to fight for Guru Sahib. Her behaviour ashamed men and all 40 of them rallied with her to go back into battle with her and protect Guru Sahib.

m2

She showed her wits in camping around the only well of an area where Mughal army was chasing Guru Sahib. It was a dry well; she deliberately held the position to lure Mughal army for water. Mughal troops were in large number but the 40 Sikh warriors gave them a tough fight.

Those 40 Sikh soldiers died in this fight but Mai Bhago survived. On the other hand, the Mughal soldiers who were dying of thirst discovered that the well was dry and felt helpless. They abandoned chasing Guru Sahib and went in other direction to search water.

The brave woman not only stalled the Mughal army’s chase but also gave Guru Sahib time to take lead. She went on become bodyguard to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Mai Bhago Ji was one of the bodyguards of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji

Isn’t she an inspiration for the modern woman of India?

Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s supreme sacrifice – foundation of a great India

Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s supreme sacrifice for the nation and to protect the faith of Kashmiri Pandits earned the coveted title of “Hind-di-Chadar” or the Shield of India.

In the entire world, there will be no other example than the supreme sacrifice of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur who sacrificed himself to protect the integrity and culture of our nation. I pay obeisance to his sacrifice and wish to narrate the story to the younger lot how inspirational the lives of our Guru Sahibs have been!

teg2
Kashmiri Pandits approached Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur for help against Aurangzeb’s forced conversion drive.

History accounts for the cruelty of Aurangzeb and how he stated converting Hindus to Muslim religion in all parts of India forcefully. He however could not get desired results while pursuing vigorous conversion of high caste Brahmins of Kashmir. because Kashmiri Brahmins had approached Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur in 1674 AD to save them from Aurangzeb’s ruthlessness.

Guru Sahib chose his son, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, as the next guru of the Sikhs and decided to stand up for the right of freedom of worship. He told the delegation of Kashmiri Pandits to tell Aurangzeb that if he could convert Guru Tegh Bahadur… they would gladly convert too.

Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib accompanied by five Sikhs Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Dyal Das, Bhai Sati Das, Bhai Gurditta and Bhai Uda were arrested in Agra and brought back to Delhi. Aurangzeb first tried to lure them with riches and upon his failure, forced them to convert to Muslim religion.
teg3

To this, Guru Sahib replied, “All men are created by God and therefore must be free to worship in any manner they like.I don’t fear death and am prepared to die.”

Guru Sahib’s fearlessness angered Aurangzeb and he ordered his men to torture Guru Sahib’s followers. His first follower was cut longitudinally into two pieces with a saw by fixing him in wooden planks, another was boiled in water and the third was burnt in cotton wool.

In the end, Aurangzeb ordered execution of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. Before He was beheaded, Guru Sahib had tied a small note on a string around his neck. When Guru Sahib’s head was severed, the note was read. It said,

ਸੀਸ ਦੀਆ ਪਰ ਸਿਰਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਆ ॥ sees dheea par sirar n dheea || सीस दीआ पर सिररु न दीआ ॥

“I gave my head, but not my Faith.”

The exact location of the beheading is marked by Gurdwara Sis Ganj in Delhi.

S. Dyal Singh Majithia lives on through his contribution to education

The problem with our history is that it has many unsung heroes and S. Dyal Singh Majithia is one of them. He did for North India what Raja Ram Mohan Roy did for Bengal. Yes, he made a significant contribution to Education in pre-independence era.

Who was Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia?

well, he is much more than a name of one college!

The problem with our history is that it has many unsung heroes and S. Dyal Singh Majithia is one of them. He did for North India what Raja Ram Mohan Roy did for Bengal. Yes, he made a significant contribution to Education in pre-independence era.

ds1

He was a firm believer of the fact that Indians need to adopt English system of education and so he established a College of the most modern kind. It was he who made available latest books to the Indian people. We all can see many libraries all across Punjab and even in Lahore in his name.

He was a great philanthropist who marked a huge contribution in setting up of Panjab University Chandigarh as well. How many of us know about his selfless contributions?     He bequeathed his valuable assets including the lavish Mansions on the Mall Road and many similar properties in Lahore, Karachi, Amirtsar and Gurdaspur in 1898 to two trusts that later established the Dyal Singh College and Dyal Singh Library in Lahore.

He was a visionary leader who established many schools and colleges besides launching The Tribune newspaper, Punjab National Bank and host of other institutes and spent all the expenses from his own.

ds2

But what is happening today? We have not only forgotten his contribution but also have turned thankless.

People who have done nothing for the cause of education are conspiring to usurp its land and property by treacherously renaming Dyal Singh Evening College as Vande Matram Vidyaleya. These people should be told that the land was owned by Dyal Singh Education Trust Society and the college infrastructure was also built by the Trust from its own resources.

I have full respect for Vande Mataram.  These two words enthuse all of us with positive energy.  That’s why I feel these words should not be used in situations prone to create controversies. ‘Vande Mataram’ is a highly regarded phrase for every Indian and any controversy built around it will be detrimental to its honour. What is more sad is that people involved in this renaming conspiracy are using the name of national song for their hidden agenda.

Moreover, Sikhs account for just 2% of Indian population. Any changes, subtractions or deletions with respect to Sikh iconic figures will send a wrong message in the community. Sikh population would feel positively inclined with nation’s ideology when they observe respect and honour for the legacy of a great man like Dyal Singh Majithia.

However, if people want to open Vande Matram Vidyala, they can do so in a new college or even University. We all will extend all possible support to such an institution.

The Governing body of Dyal Singh Evening College not only took an illegal decision as it had no power to rename it but also has taken other controversial decisions. Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) strongly opposes renaming of Dyal Singh College of the city as Vande Matram Vidyaleya.

Any move to rename it will be opposed tooth and nail and it will also resort to protests on roads. We have passed a resolution condemning the act of the Governing body of the Dyal Singh College and ask them to withdraw their disputed proposal immediately otherwise DSGMC shall be forced to hold protests and take other necessary action to stop this process.

I humbly request the governing body to revoke this decision.

Dyal Singh Majithia is not a person; he has been a revolution and revolutions cannot e made to disappear like this!

Unmatched courage & supreme sacrifice of Chaar Sahibzaade – an epitome of Indian culture

It is important to make everyone aware of the legend of Chaar Sahibzaade. The more their story spreads, the stronger will be the urge in our youth to return to their roots!

I have been pursuing the cause of creating awareness about the heroic deeds, unparalleled valor and supreme sacrifices made by the revered sons (lovingly called Chaar Sahibzaade) of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji who sacrificed their lives for the cause of justice and freedom of religion.

WhatsApp Image 2017-11-11 at 10.08.48 AM

India has always been a nation that stands for peace and humanity. Owing to the influence of western culture, Indian families are struggling to give the right examples to their children. Children are going astray for choosing wrong role models. To save the nation from the bankruptcy of ethical heroes and lack of pride-brimming examples; it is important to make everyone aware of the legend of Chaar Sahibzaade. The more their story spreads, the stronger will be the urge in our youth to return to their roots!

Indian needs to tell the story of Chaar Sahibzaade to the world. It is because of the sacrifice made by Chaar Sahibzaade that the cruel Mughal emperor Aurangzeb had to drop the evil policy of forceful conversion of people into Islam. Chaar Sahibzaade fought for the country and freedom of religion against foreign invaders – Mughals. All of them died as martyrs at a very tender age.

They followed in the footsteps of their grandfather Sikh Guru Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji who sacrificed his life to fight the Mughal oppression against Kashmiri Pundits. Similarly, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh Ji (Age 18 and 14 years old respectively) along with 40 Sikh warriors achieved martyrdom as warriors in the battle of Chamkaur Sahib. While the younger ones, Chotte Sahibzaade, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji, were just 6 and 9 years old when they were bricked alive for refusing to accept Islam.

There is no comparison of valor, sacrifices made by them not only in the history of India but also the history of world. Chote Sahibzaade fought like valiant soldiers and chose to be bricked alive but did not bend in front of the threats or lures given by Nawab Wazir Khan of Sirhind.

I wish to make it clear that there is no intention of revenge or competition when we request PM Narendra Modi Ji to celebrate Children’s Day in the name of Chaar Sahibzaade. Modi Ji is a progressive leader with a vision to bring to forefront the glorious legacy of India. Declaring Children’s Day in the name of Chaar Sahibzaade will give the world a message that the nation recognizes this unique sacrifice and values its past.

Children’s Day should be celebrated to pay tribute to Chaar Sahibzaade

Whenever I talk about the ‘Shahadat’ of Dasham Pitah Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s sons; I feel overwhelming emotions because there exists no other example in history of any other country where children laid down their lives so fearlessly… for the sake of humanity and commitment.

Let me first tell you the story of Chaar Sahibzaade and their exceptional Sacrifice.

There is a beautiful line we all often quote ‘Nikian Jinda Wada Saka’. which translates into “Supreme Sacrifice of Little Ones”. The quote denotes the way  four sons of Dashmesh Pita Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji, Sahibzada Jujhar Singh Ji, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji, achieved martyrdom.

a3

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh Ji were 18 and 14 years old respectively when they along with 40 Sikh warriors gave a strong fight to the Mughal Army in the battle of Chamkaur Sahib. They achieved martyrdom as warriors in this battle.

The younger ones, Chote Sahibzaade, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji, were just 6 and 9 years old. Mughal army arrested Mata Gujri Ji (the mother of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji) and Chote Sahibzadas near Morinda. From there, they were handed over to Suba Sirhind, where they were imprisoned, in the Thanda Burj (Cold Tower). Nawab Wazir Khan of Sirhind was a cruel man. He asked them to convert to Islam if they wanted to live a happy and comfortable life.

a1.jpg

Historians account that the brave kids had replied raising Jaikara, “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh”. Chote Sahibzaade told Wazir Khan that Sikhism was dearer to them and they were kids of lion Guru Gobind Singh and grandsons of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur who laid down his life to defend the right of religious freedom.

Upon their continuous rejection of the idea of adopting Islam, Nawab Wazir Khan decided to punish them and in a heinous and cold-blooded manner.

Sahibzada Fateh Singh and Sahibzada Zorawar Singh were bricked alive and later killed in the presence of entire Assembly.

a2

Words fail to describe the infinite courage shown by them who were bravery and focussed to stand for the ideals set by their grandfather and father. They were not even lured by the promise of lavish gifts and cosy comforts.

They chose a painful and tragic death entombed within a wall of bricks and mortar but made no compromise on the values and ideals of Sikhism.

I ask you dear readers – have you ever heard or seen any such incident of bravery shown by kids of such young age? If no, let us all acknowledge this as the supreme sacrifice.

a4

It is my earnest wish that India should pay homage to their sacrifice by celebrating Children’s Day in their name. This will give children of our country the finest idols who stood bravely in the wake of torture and tyranny.

I request PM Narendra Modi Ji to pay tribute to the Shahadat of Chaar Sahibzaade by dedicating Children’s Day in their name.

A good lesson for everyone spreading hatred on social media

Digital India is not meant for Sakshi Bhardwajs to humiliate a community and make us fight with each other. Social media is meant for better use – like sharing each other’s happiness on all festive occasions.

In last few weeks, many people brought to my notice hate videos and Facebook posts posted by a girl named Sakshi Bhardwaj on internet.

bl1

She was seen abusing Sikhs in all her videos and FB posts. She has used foul language against Sikh Guru Sahibs and baseless allegations against Sikh communities. Needless to say, such videos are highly provocative. I took offense to one such video in which she calls Sikhs “hypocrites” and “anti-national”. She has stooped down so low that she uses derogatory language for Sikhs describing the men as ‘women with long hair and wearing bangles’.

I thought the woman is a psychopath but then may be she was posting such content to evoke hatred feelings between Sikhs and Hindus.

bl2

Taking a note of her ulterior motive, I filed a complaint against her and met DCP in this regard who assured me full support and quick action against her.

Many of us Reported ABUSE against her digital media ID on all platforms, Facebook and Twitter. She went on to such extent to target me personally in her posts!

bl3

I especially want to thank Mr GS Walia, a chief commercial inspector in the Northern Railways, who moved a petition against Sakshi Bhardwaj in Delhi Court. He had even written to Google India asking it to take such videos down. Sadly, Google India did not accept his request.

But kudos to Indian Judiciary!

Last week, a Delhi court instructed Google India to take down videos and articles by Sakshi Bhardwaj, that too within a week.

The court said Sikhs were likely to “feel grave insult to their religious sentiments” if the videos continued to circulate.

bl5

I wish to share with my readers that the lesson in this incident is clear – no one is allowed to affect the social harmony and law and order in our nation. Those who are deliberately spreading hatred among different communities are bound to lose every time we all stand united in favour of peace and universal brotherhood.

Digital India is not meant for Sakshi Bhardwajs to humiliate a community and make us fight with each other. Social media is meant for better use – like sharing each other’s happiness on all festive occasions.

Ban on Hookah Bars in Delhi – AAP wakes up from slumber; only to take credit!

People can clearly see that AAP leadership has encouraged Hookah bars in Delhi with their silence in last two and a half years.

Yesterday, a tweet by Health Minister of Delhi govt. Satyendra Jain caught my attention. Sharing it here –

12 I want to bring it to people’s notice that this tweet comes on October 31st while Health Ministry Government of India had already issues an order banning Hookah smoking on May 23, 2016.

After that order, I met LG Delhi to get this order of the GOI implemented in Delhi and on his orders, department of State Tobacco Control issued an order on July 21, 2017 banning Hookah bars in Delhi. Along with this new order issued at instance of LG, we  handed over copies of this order to the SHOs of Delhi to get this order implemented and get Hookah Bars closed in the National Capital.

13
For last 4 months, I have approached NGT to get Hookah bars closed in Delhi and pursued case there. I called ‘Attention Motion’ on this issue three times in Delhi Vidhan Sabha but Speaker denied permission on the issue.
But thanks to the support of dignitaries including Union Health Minister Mr. Harshvardhan, Mr. KTS Tulsi, General JJ Singh, Mr. Manjit Singh GK President DSGMC, Mr. Manoj Tiwari, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Mr. Vijayendra Gupta and general public, the Hookah Bars in Delhi are banned totally.

WhatsApp Image 2017-10-26 at 12.12.37 PM

But now… the AAP government has woken up from deep slumber only to claim that it has banned Hookah Bars. I ask Health Minister Mr. Satyendra Jain on which order he had issued and when to ban these Hookah Bars ?

WhatsApp Image 2017-11-01 at 5.36.12 PM
BJP MP Mr. Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma addressed a Press conference to clarify that AAP government Delhi has played no role in ban imposed on Hookah Bars in Delhi

People can clearly see that AAP leadership has encouraged Hookah bars in Delhi with their silence in last two and a half years. It is high time Mr Arvind Kejriwal stop wasting time and resources in dramebaazi… they have a full list of promises remaining unfulfilled. Public would never forgive their carelessness!
